Yellow Creek Messabout 9.27.2015

Yellow Creek Messabout

(a fall, sailing festival)

Noon, Sunday 9/27

You are invited to a fall sailing festival at Yellow Creek State Park. Come join us for sailing, socializing and food. Beginning at noon, we expect sailors from University of Pittsburgh and Gannon University to join IUP for informal racing. We’ll have social sailing on FOYC boats and SUPs (stand-up paddle boards) for Friends members. But if you’re not a member, come join the festivities and find out about our sailing lessons and growing community sailing opportunities.

The Messabout is a relaxed alternative to the formal regatta. Bring your boat, if you have one … or hitch a ride with the friendly sailors at Yellow Creek. We’ll provide hotdogs, BBQ supplies and drinks. You’re welcome to bring your own favorite food to grill and share.

Yellow Creek Messabout is co-sponsored by Friends of Yellow Creek ( and the IUP Sailing Club (

The Yellow Creek sailing base is accessible via College Lodge Road off of Rt. 422. (Beach launching only at the sailing base; if you are bringing a trailerable boat, please launch from one of the park launch ramps on the north shore.) Email for more information.

Racers at the End of the Day, Sunday August 2, 2015

Sailors had a great time sailing in a 5-9 kt breeze, though it was quite shifty.  Here is the crew at the end of the day on Sunday.  Several sailors had to leave earlier in the day.

PDR Worlds 2015

More than a dozen ducks flocked to Lake Arthur (Moraine State Park) for the 2015 championships.  Races were held over two days, Saturday and Sunday, in generally brisk winds (6-10kts).  The race committee held two races each day.

Paul Hemker is the 2015 champion, winning each of the four races!
